John Jinapor says the government has installed about 200 transformers across the country to help fix Ghana’s struggling power supply system.
He shared this update on Monday, April 27, during a government accountability event in Accra.
He explained that this is just the beginning of a bigger plan to replace about 2,500 old transformers nationwide.
According to him, the goal is to reduce constant voltage problems and make the electricity supply more stable, especially as demand for power keeps increasing.
He also noted that the government is moving away from the smaller 20 KVA transformers to stronger ones with 30 KVA capacity and above, so they can handle more load.
“This month alone, we have installed almost 200 transformers as part of an emergency effort to fix the problem,” he said.
Mr. Jinapor added that the new transformers are being placed in key areas where power issues are most serious, to quickly improve voltage levels.
Some of the areas that have already benefited include Adenta, Lashibi, and Teshie-Nungua.
Overall, the ongoing work is expected to reduce pressure on the power system and help provide more reliable electricity across the country.
