Two people have lost their lives and eight others injured in a fatal road accident involving a Toyota Hiace minibus and a stationary truck at Dompoase on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.
The crash occurred on Friday, July 31, 2026, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with personnel from the Komenda Fire Station arriving at the scene to carry out rescue operations.
In a statement, the GNFS said its team was dispatched at about 6:55 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found one occupant trapped inside the Toyota Hiace, bearing registration number AS 6145-24. The victim was successfully extricated from the vehicle.
Initial reports indicated that all 10 people on board the minibus sustained injuries of varying severity, with three initially classified as critically injured.
The injured were rushed to the Elmina Polyclinic for treatment. However, the National Ambulance Service later confirmed that two of the victims died after arriving at the health facility.
Eyewitnesses told emergency responders that the accident happened when an unidentified vehicle travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast attempted to overtake another vehicle.
To avoid a head-on collision, the Toyota Hiace, which was travelling in the opposite direction, reportedly swerved off its lane and crashed into a broken-down truck with registration number GN 2491-14 that had been parked along the roadside.
The Ghana National Fire Service said investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and that additional information will be made available.
