Former Multimedia Group journalist Samuel Kojo Brace, popularly known as “Ahanta Pele,” has officially announced his intention to enter active politics and contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ahanta West Constituency.
Mr Brace announced at a press conference following months of speculation about his political ambitions. His decision comes after a series of community engagements, including the “Walk with Ahanta Pele” held in Agona Nkwanta earlier this month.
He said residents and listeners from across the political divide had encouraged him for nearly a decade to enter politics and use his experience to contribute to the development of Ahanta.
“For close to a decade many of you and thousands listening to me on radio and watching me on television have called on me to go into politics for the sake of this constituency we love.”
Mr Brace noted that the calls had also come from people associated with the NDC and the Convention People’s Party, stressing that the support was based largely on their shared interest in Ahanta’s development.
“For over a decade I have listened. You believed in the commitment I have shown without holding political influence. You felt that tells how impactful I would be with the power to represent as an MP.”
“Their message has been simple. Regardless of political ambition, they are prepared to support me because they know I love Ahanta and my commitment to its development.”
He said he had decided to respond to the calls because he believes he has ideas and the ability to mobilise resources to support development in the constituency.
“So I have heard the calls and I have decided to respond because I know that when it comes to the development of our beautiful Ahanta, by the grace of God I have ideas and I know how to pull the resources together to help move this beautiful land of ours to where it has to be.”
Resignation from Multimedia
Mr Brace also confirmed his resignation from Multimedia Group Limited to focus fully on what he described as the “Ahanta dream.”
“So recently, as you have been told, I resigned from my role at Multimedia Group Limited.”
He praised Multimedia as an enviable workplace but said he was prepared to leave to pursue his political ambitions.
“Multimedia is such an enviable place to work and I won’t pretend otherwise. I won’t trade Multimedia for nothing, but I am giving it up to concentrate fully on what I call the Ahanta dream.”
Mr Brace, who has been associated with JoyNews, has built a public profile through journalism and community advocacy, particularly on issues affecting Ahanta West.
Reflecting on his time as a student leader at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), he recalled how poverty featured prominently in discussions among students.
As president of the Ahanta Students Association, he said his administration established a fund to support students facing financial difficulties.
“When I was a student leader in UCC, anytime we met there was one chorus that ran through our conversations poverty. So I remember under my leadership as the president, we set up a fund so we would assist the needy.”
He said the experience strengthened his commitment to tackling poverty and improving living conditions in Ahanta.
