A 31-year-old butcher from Ejura in the Ashanti Region has been remanded by the Nsuta Circuit Court after allegedly sexually abusing a 19-year-old apprentice.
The accused, identified as Wadudu Gariba, also known as Akula, reportedly pleaded guilty to a charge of unnatural carnal knowledge but denied a separate allegation of unlawful assault.
According to reports, the complainant, Eliasu Saliu, approached Gariba in August seeking accommodation because he was uncomfortable sharing a single room with his mother, three sisters and a niece.
Gariba allegedly allowed Saliu to stay at his residence at Kotokoli Line in Ejura. It is alleged that the abuse occurred on the first night and was repeated several times during the month.
Saliu reportedly did not immediately report the matter because of embarrassment. He later stopped sleeping at Gariba’s residence after Gariba’s elder brother objected to the arrangement.
On August 28, Gariba allegedly approached Saliu again, but the young man refused. Gariba reportedly gave him a mobile phone and GH¢10 to purchase airtime.
Saliu allegedly took the phone home with the intention of telling his mother about what had happened. However, he reportedly did not find her at home.
Later that evening, Gariba and another man identified as Sekechi allegedly attacked Saliu outside his home. The complainant reportedly suffered facial swelling during the incident before his elder sister intervened after hearing him calling for help.
Sekechi, who is alleged to have been involved in the assault, is reportedly still at large.
The court has remanded Gariba while the case proceeds.
