ECG upgrades transformers at Akwatia substation to improve power supply

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has upgraded transformers at its Akwatia substation as part of ongoing efforts to improve power supply reliability and reduce outages in parts of the Eastern Region.

According to ECG, the upgrade forms part of a broader maintenance and infrastructure improvement programme aimed at strengthening the national distribution network and enhancing voltage stability for consumers.

The company explained that the intervention at the Akwatia substation was necessary to address load challenges and improve the capacity of the system to meet growing electricity demand from households, businesses, and public facilities in the area.

ECG engineers carried out the replacement and upgrading of key transformer components to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of unexpected system failures.

Officials say the upgraded equipment is expected to ensure more stable and consistent power delivery to Akwatia and surrounding communities, particularly during peak demand periods.

A technical official involved in the project said, “This upgrade is aimed at improving reliability and ensuring that customers experience fewer interruptions. It will also help us manage the load more efficiently”.

The company added that similar upgrade works are ongoing in other parts of the country as part of its network reinforcement strategy to improve overall power distribution.

ECG has assured customers of its commitment to improving service delivery and investing in infrastructure to support the long-term stability of electricity supply nationwide.
