Police launch manhunt after fatal attack on mobile money vendor at Gomoa Dominase Market

The Central East Regional Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who shot and killed a mobile money vendor during a violent robbery attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region. 

According to police, a group of masked gunmen stormed the busy market and targeted the vendor before opening fire during the robbery. Another person was also struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries in the attack. The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

A police statement said officers at the Gomoa Dominase District Police Command received distress calls and quickly deployed personnel to the market. However, by the time officers arrived, the suspects had escaped into a nearby bush. Eyewitnesses told investigators that the attackers were heavily armed and fired indiscriminately, causing panic among traders and market patrons.

Preliminary investigations identified the deceased as Hamisu Abdulai, a mobile money vendor who suffered critical gunshot wounds during the robbery. He and the second victim were initially rushed to a nearby polyclinic for emergency treatment before being referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba due to the severity of their injuries. Sadly, Hamisu Abdulai was pronounced dead on arrival, while the second victim remains in admission and is reportedly responding to treatment.

Crime scene investigators recovered 14 spent BB cartridges and one live cartridge from the scene. The exhibits have been secured for forensic examination as investigators work to identify and track down the perpetrators.

The Central East Regional Police Command has assured residents that every effort is being made to arrest those behind the attack and bring them to justice.

Police have appealed to the public to volunteer any information that could assist investigations by calling emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or by visiting the nearest police station.
