DVLA impounds 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour over fake DP stickers

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has seized 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour after uncovering the use of fake “Drive from Port” (DP) stickers.

In a statement released on Friday, April 17, 2026, the DVLA said their investigation also found that some vehicles had real DP stickers, but the details on those stickers did not match the vehicles they were attached to.

Early findings suggest the cars were imported by CFAO.

However, the DVLA believes that an agent hired to clear the vehicles may have used illegal methods, which led to the problems discovered.

The DVLA explained that they became suspicious after noticing unusual changes in DP sticker issuance.

At one point in October 2025, the number of stickers issued jumped from about 2,000 per month to around 15,000.

But in recent months, the numbers suddenly dropped, which raised concerns and triggered further checks.

The Authority says it is now working with National Security to investigate the issue and stop such fraud in the future.

The DVLA also advised vehicle importers and others involved to be careful, follow the proper procedures, and avoid shortcuts. They assured the public that they are committed to keeping Ghana’s vehicle registration system fair and trustworthy.
