The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned prospective parliamentary aspirants that violating its directive to suspend campaign activities could lead to disqualification from the party’s primaries.
The party’s Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, said aspirants must demonstrate discipline and respect for party regulations if they intend to occupy leadership positions.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Miracles Aboagye stressed that disregarding official directives raised concerns about an aspirant’s willingness to abide by the party’s rules.
He indicated that the party could impose sanctions on those who fail to comply, including barring them from contesting the parliamentary primaries.
According to him, the directive is binding on all prospective candidates, and anyone seeking to lead the party must be prepared to respect decisions taken by its leadership.
“If you yourself begin to disregard party directives, then, you know, you’re not fit to lead a party at any level,” he said.
Mr Aboagye further cautioned that aspirants who continue campaigning despite the ban could jeopardise their chances of securing the party’s ticket.
The NPP has instructed prospective parliamentary candidates, their agents and supporters to suspend all campaign-related activities until further notice.
The directive, according to the party, is intended to prevent premature campaigning, promote fairness among aspirants and maintain unity within its ranks ahead of the parliamentary primaries.
