A private citizen, Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu, has urged the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to speed up its investigations into claims of conflict of interest involving John Dramani Mahama over Engineers & Planners’ takeover of the Damang Mine.
Mr. Amekplenu submitted a petition to CHRAJ, raising concerns about possible conflict of interest, misuse of executive influence, and the alleged use of public office to benefit family interests. According to him, these actions may go against Article 284 of Ghana’s Constitution.
Speaking on air on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Mr. Amekplenu confirmed that CHRAJ had received the petition and had already started investigations in line with the required procedures.
He, however, appealed to the Commission to complete the investigation within a reasonable period to promote accountability and transparency.
“The case is still within CHRAJ because I tracked it yesterday and noticed that the matter is still under consideration,” he stated.
He further said, “I do not want to push them by imposing timelines. They should operate within their own procedures, but the public is watching. For the public not to begin forming their own conclusions, it would be proper for the Commission to come out with its findings promptly to serve the interest of accountability and transparency”.
Mr. Amekplenu also appealed to Parliament to put any ratification process connected to the matter on hold until CHRAJ finishes its investigations.
“If anything goes wrong, Parliament will be held responsible by the citizens of this country because the same citizens elected them into office. They must act as watchdogs and ensure that the property of this country is protected,” he said.
