3 injured as fuel tanker crashes into garage in Kumasi

Three people have sustained injuries and several vehicles have been damaged after a fuel tanker crashed into a garage at Ahodwo, near Ridge Condos in Kumasi.

The incident, which occurred yesterday, April 16, has left residents and business owners in the area shaken, as emergency services rushed to the scene to contain the situation and assist victims.

Eyewitnesses say the tanker, fully loaded with fuel, lost control while descending a stretch of road near the residential enclave before veering off and ramming into the garage.

The impact caused significant destruction, leaving multiple vehicles mangled and parts of the structure damaged.

“The driver appeared to have lost control suddenly. Within seconds, the tanker crashed straight into the garage,” one witness recounted.

The three injured persons, whose identities are yet to be confirmed, were quickly attended to by the residents and transported to a hospital for treatment.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were deployed promptly to the scene to prevent a potential fire outbreak, given the highly flammable nature of the tanker’s contents.

Officers worked to secure the area while ensuring that the fuel spillage did not ignite.

Meanwhile, officials from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service have also commenced investigations into the cause of the crash.

Preliminary assessments suggest possible brake failure, though they say a full probe is underway.
