Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has met with leaders of Ghana’s young medical professionals and students to discuss challenges affecting their training, careers and welfare.
The engagement brought together the national leadership of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association (FGMSA), and presidents of medical students’ associations from across the country.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the meeting provided an opportunity for an open and honest discussion on some of the major concerns facing young doctors and medical students.
Among the issues discussed were training conditions, timely postings, welfare and career progression.
Dr. Bawumia said the concerns raised by the participants were important to the future of Ghana’s healthcare system and should inform policy decisions.
He noted that young doctors and medical students represent the next generation of professionals who will take responsibility for the country’s healthcare delivery.
“These are the brilliant minds who will carry the weight of Ghana’s healthcare system tomorrow, and their voices must shape our policies today,” he said.
The former Vice President expressed appreciation to the young doctors and student leaders for their participation and contributions during the engagement.
He described the discussions as insightful and said such engagements were important in understanding the challenges confronting young people pursuing careers in medicine.
