The Upper West Regional Police Command has recovered 17 stolen motorbikes and arrested four suspects during a special anti-robbery operation targeting motorbike theft and other violent crimes across the region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, the Police said the operation was part of intensified efforts to crack down on criminal activities in the Upper West Region.
The suspects, identified as Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid, and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy, were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations carried out between July 11 and July 15 in Wa, Charia and Hamile.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in the theft and sale of stolen motorbikes. Police said they have admitted to the offences and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Investigators have also arrested four additional persons suspected of purchasing some of the stolen motorcycles as enquiries continue.
The four main suspects have been remanded into custody by the Wa Circuit Court and are expected to reappear on August 11, 2026.
Police have appealed to owners of stolen motorbikes to report to their respective District Police Headquarters with valid proof of ownership to help identify and reclaim the recovered motorcycles.
