The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana travelling to Senegal for pilgrimage to use air transport instead of travelling by road.
The Ministry said air travel is currently the preferred, safest and most secure means of transportation, citing security concerns along some road corridors leading to Dakar.
In a travel advisory issued on Friday, August 21, the Ministry said that although Senegal remains safe for travellers, there are concerns about the security situation along certain routes used for long-distance road travel.
Prospective pilgrims who are yet to finalise their travel arrangements have therefore been advised to opt for air travel.
Those who have already made plans to travel by road have also been urged to reconsider and make alternative arrangements to fly.
“Prospective travellers and pilgrims are strongly advised to consider travel by air as the most preferred, safe and secure means of transportation,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry further urged Tijjaniya pilgrims and other prospective travellers to follow the advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security.
It assured Ghanaian nationals that it remains committed to their welfare, safety and protection and will continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with relevant international partners.
