A 19-year-old Senior High School (SHS) student has sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach during a demolition exercise at Domeabra-Danchira in the Ga South Municipality on Wednesday, April 6, 2026.
The incident occurred when police officers were assigned to supervise a demolition exercise reportedly conducted by a private developer.
Reports indicate that the officers discharged their firearms during the operation, resulting in severe injuries to the student.
The victim was initially transported to the FK Effah Community Hospital before being referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for additional treatment. Medical personnel have indicated that his condition remains critical due to the nature of the gunshot wound.
Family members have claimed that the young man was exiting his residence when the officers commenced firing indiscriminately.
They assert that the bullet hit him in the stomach, placing him in a life-threatening state.
The demolition operation follows previous reports indicating that a private developer, identified as Frederick Kofi Asare, had entered Domeabra and Danchira with police assistance to demolish over 1,000 structures.
Ibrahim Napson, the Administrator of FK Effah Community Hospital, confirmed the seriousness of the injuries, characterising the victim’s condition as critical.
In a related matter, Nii Gamu Osamanu Tackie Okai, the head of the Nii Djan Bi Amu family of Danchira, has refuted allegations that the land in question was sold to the developer.
He has urged the President, the Chief Justice, and security agencies to take action.
The incident has escalated tensions in the area, with residents calling for accountability regarding the conduct of the demolition exercise.
