The Ghana Police Service has disrupted a planned robbery operation in Obuasi, leading to the arrest of two suspects linked to a recent attack on a foreign national and a separate plot targeting a local business.

According to the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, the operation followed credible intelligence received on April 16 about an imminent robbery being planned by a group of armed men in the area.

Acting swiftly, a police team tracked and arrested one suspect, Iddrisu Fuseini, popularly known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso, a suburb of Obuasi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Fuseini is a member of a six-man gang responsible for a robbery attack on an Indian national at his residence in New Baakoyeden on April 12.

The victim was reportedly robbed of GH₵150,000.

During interrogation, Fuseini confessed to his involvement and disclosed that the attack was orchestrated with insider information from an employee of the victim, identified only as Ibrahim, who allegedly tipped off the gang about large sums of money kept in the house.

Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” on April 20 at Gausu, another suburb of Obuasi.

Mohammed is said to have admitted his role in planning the earlier robbery and also revealed that the gang had been preparing to launch another attack on a distribution company located near Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi.

Police investigations have also uncovered that both suspects are currently standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the gang, identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim.

The suspects are believed to be in possession of dangerous weapons, including a pump-action shotgun and a locally manufactured pistol.

The Police Service has assured the public of intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and has urged residents to provide any relevant information to support ongoing investigations.
