Police crackdown on Akatsi robbery network, arrest three

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a series of robbery incidents in Akatsi and surrounding communities, following a targeted intelligence-led operation.

The operation was led by the Special Operations Assistant (SOA) to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), as part of efforts to curb rising insecurity in the area.

According to police sources, the exercise was carried out after several reports of robberies heightened fear among residents.

On April 21, 2026, the SOA team apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Enoch Adoglo, at Gavekope. Subsequent intelligence gathering led officers to the outskirts of the same community, where a second suspect, Cephas Aniwaa, was arrested. Aniwaa, a blacksmith by trade, is believed to have been manufacturing and supplying weapons used by the robbery network.

A third suspect, David Adzinu, was also arrested during the operation.

A search conducted on the suspects uncovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. Items retrieved included seven single-barrel rifles, five locally manufactured pistols, one revolver, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Among the ammunition seized were 64 rounds of ACP, 11 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition, as well as both live and spent BB cartridges. Police also retrieved three mobile phones and tools believed to be used in weapon fabrication.

The police investigative body has since identified another suspect, Mensah Kedzi, as a key figure linked to the robberies, including a major incident reported on April 3, 2026. Kedzi is currently on the run, along with other accomplices, including a suspect identified as Akakpo, said to be an ex-convict, and another suspect known as Ageh.

The police say efforts have been intensified to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the entire network. Authorities have also assured the public that all those arrested will be processed and made to face the full rigours of the law.
