A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was involved in a road accident on the Goaso–Mim Highway in the Ahafo Region in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14.
Before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived, passers-by had already rescued the injured victims and rushed them to the hospital.
According to a statement from the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, signed by the Ahafo Regional Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFO II) Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, the Regional Commander came across the accident scene while travelling on official duty to Mim Senior High School on Wednesday, July 15.
On arriving at the scene, he asked whether the Fire Service had been notified of the crash but was informed that, despite the accident occurring at dawn, no report had been made to the GNFS.
By then, all the injured victims had already been taken to hospital by members of the public who stopped to assist.
On the instructions of ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, firefighters cleared the damaged vehicle from the road to restore the free flow of traffic and reduce the risk of another accident.
The Regional Commander urged motorists to observe road safety regulations and encouraged the public to report road accidents promptly through emergency numbers so rescue teams can respond quickly and help save lives.
