Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 48-year-old businessman on charges of allegedly murdering his girlfriend in what investigators describe as a domestic violence case.
Francis Arthur is accused of fatally beating his girlfriend, Sally Benson, a prominent beautician based in Kumasi, with whom he had reportedly been in a relationship for over a decade, at Ayigya-Maxima in Kumasi, following a disagreement.
This incident took place on April 14, 2026.
According to the police, the victim, accompanied by a female friend, had gone to the suspect’s home after learning that another woman had visited him.
At the time of their arrival, the suspect was reportedly not at home.
While the two waited, Arthur is said to have returned home and was confronted by the victim.
Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare stated that it was during the subsequent altercation that Arthur allegedly assaulted her multiple times.
It is reported that she collapsed, after which Arthur allegedly transported her in her own vehicle to KNUST Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Arthur made his initial court appearance before Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter at the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and was remanded into custody, with a scheduled reappearance on May 8, 2026. Family members of the deceased were present in court.
The death of Sally Benson, who owned Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special pub in the Asokwa area, has left her family and friends in a state of shock.
Her father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, expressed profound sorrow and called for justice for his daughter.
“Sally’s friend has informed us about everything. It is Francis Arthur, a boyfriend whom I do not know personally.
“Sally received the news that a woman had arrived to see this man, prompting her to go there. Upon her arrival, they were waiting for the man, as he was not present. When the man finally arrived, Sally confronted him with the question, ‘Is it true there’s someone there like that? ‘ This led to a heated argument.
“According to the girl, the man assaulted Sally until she collapsed. As she fell, they began pouring water on her. She was rushed to Tech Hospital, but upon arrival, they informed her that she had already passed away. Just like that, you’ve killed my daughter”.
He further demanded justice, emphasising that the law must be upheld.
“I want justice. We are all part of a nation governed by law. That is why we do not take the law into our own hands. In situations like this, I understand there is a specific manner in which the law addresses it and what the law stipulates regarding it. This is what I seek for my daughter and our family.
“Indeed, she is far too young and… Uh… this is all I can express. May the government of Ghana ensure that the laws are enforced for us. You cannot take my daughter’s life. Her mother is deceased, and she is the only child. How? May justice prevail”.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
