C/R: One injured in suspected landguard attack

A suspected landguard attack has left a 35-year-old man in critical condition at Awutu Oshimpo in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region, following violence at a government-backed project site.

The victim, Daniel Larbi, is currently receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Residents say the community has long faced challenges with poor mobile network connectivity.

To address this, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Agbotui Tetteh, reportedly facilitated investment for the construction of a telecommunications tower in the area.

Preliminary work on the project had commenced with the support of residents and local traditional leaders.

However, the situation escalated when about 30 men, believed to be landguards, stormed the site on roughly 10 motorbikes and demanded that construction be halted immediately.

Eyewitnesses say residents opposed the directive, arguing that the project was a government initiative meant to benefit the entire community.

According to residents, the group then carried out an unprovoked attack, causing panic and increasing tensions in the area.

During the confrontation, Daniel Larbi was reportedly stabbed, leaving him in a critical state.

The incident has left residents deeply shaken, with many expressing concerns about their safety.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
