A mobile money (MoMo) vendor is in critical condition after being shot during a robbery attack at Agona Mankron Junction in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
According to reports, six heavily armed men stormed the community and carried out a series of coordinated robberies targeting mobile money vendors, shops, motorists and commuters.
The suspects reportedly robbed three MoMo vendors of undisclosed sums of money during the attack.
They also attempted to rob a filling station, but workers managed to flee before the assailants could execute their plan.
An eyewitness, Kojo Assan, said residents were thrown into panic after reports spread that armed robbers had invaded the town and were attacking businesses and passers-by.
He said the robbers later moved towards Kwanyarko, where they mounted a roadblock on the Bawjiase–Swedru Road and robbed commuters at gunpoint.
“The whole town was thrown into panic. People were running in different directions. Some fled into nearby bushes, while others hid in the cemetery because of the continuous gunfire,” he recounted.
Residents have appealed to the police to arrest the perpetrators, restore calm and enhance protection for businesses and commuters.
The injured MoMo vendor is receiving treatment at a health facility, while police are expected to investigate the incident.
