TUC urges gov’t to resolve striking teachers’ grievances urgently

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on the government to urgently address the concerns of striking teachers to end the ongoing industrial action and restore normal teaching and learning in schools.

TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah expressed concern about the continued disruption to academic activities, urging authorities to accelerate efforts to resolve the dispute.

He said the teachers’ decision to embark on the strike was influenced by their previous experiences, stressing that the government must intervene promptly to address their concerns.

“We are asking the government to expedite action and resolve their concerns. The teachers are doing this based on their previous experiences, and the government must come in now,” Mr Ansah said.

The strike has continued despite public appeals for teachers to return to the classroom, raising concerns about its potential impact on pupils and the academic calendar.

Mr Ansah emphasised the need for a lasting solution, noting that delays in resolving the issues could prolong the disruption and deepen concerns within the education sector.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Agyekum, has assured the public that the government is working towards resolving the impasse.

“The teachers were looking up to us to provide, and I can confirm to you that we are resolving it,” he said.
