12 arrested in Northern Region over suspected drug use, firearms possession

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested 12 persons for allegedly engaging in illicit drug use and possessing firearms.

The suspects were reportedly arrested during an operation by the police as part of efforts to clamp down on drug-related activities and the possession of illegal weapons in the region.

Items retrieved from the suspects include two locally manufactured pistols, one pump-action gun, six sachets of Tramadol 250mg and 25 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.

The police have not provided further details about the identities of the suspects or the specific locations where the arrests were made.

Tramadol is a pain-relieving medication that can pose serious health risks when misused, particularly in high doses. Indian hemp, commonly known as cannabis, is also subject to Ghana’s laws governing controlled substances.

The Northern Regional Police Command is yet to disclose whether the suspects have been formally charged or when they are expected to appear before a court.
