New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Paul Afoko says the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will need a united and well-organised party to succeed in the next general election.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during the official launch of his campaign and presentation of his vision for the NPP, Mr. Afoko said presidential candidates cannot win elections alone.
He explained that their success depends on the strength and support of the party structure behind them.
He said rebuilding the NPP’s structures from the grassroots level will be important in helping Dr Bawumia’s presidential campaign and improving the party’s chances in future elections.
“The task ahead is not his alone. It is the task of the entire party. No presidential candidate can win without a united party, a strong organisation, disciplined structures, motivated grassroots, and a parliamentary strategy that works constituency by constituency,” he said.
Mr. Afoko said Dr Bawumia presents a major opportunity for both the NPP and Ghana, but added that the party must create the right support system to help him succeed.
“Dr Bawumia represents an important opportunity for the NPP and for Ghana. He must be supported by a party machinery that is united, properly resourced, nationally energized, and strategically disciplined to add value to the value created by the brand DMB,” he said.
The former NPP National Chairman said his leadership plans will focus on rebuilding the party’s organisational strength, supporting parliamentary candidates, and restoring confidence among party members.
He said that if elected, he will work to strengthen the party’s structures from the polling station level to the national level.
“When I’m given the honour to serve again as national chairman, I will work to support our presidential candidate, support our parliamentary candidates, support our constituencies, and restore confidence in the party from the polling station to the national level,” Mr Afoko stated.
