Teachers cleared after October 16 to receive promotion arrears in November – CAGD

Teachers whose promotion records are verified and cleared after October 16 will receive their outstanding promotion arrears alongside their November salaries, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced.

Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei said teachers whose records are validated before the deadline will be paid through a supplementary payment process, while those cleared afterwards will have their arrears included in the November payroll.

Speaking during an interview, October 8, Mr Agyei explained that the department was working to complete the verification process and release payments to eligible teachers before the October 16 deadline.

He said records validated and approved by the department by the deadline would be processed for payment on or before that date.

“Then after 16th, whatever input forms and whatever process that is done is to be added into the November salary,” he stated.

The CAGD is currently reviewing promotion records submitted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that the information matches the affected teachers’ payroll details before payments are authorised.

Mr Agyei disclosed that, as of 2 p.m. on Thursday, the GES had processed 52,000 promotions on its system and submitted the necessary input forms for verification.

He explained that the exercise was necessary to establish the teachers’ new grades, the effective dates of their promotions and the corresponding arrears owed to them.

The announcement comes amid an ongoing strike by teacher unions over several concerns, including delays in promotion arrears, a proposed deprived-area allowance and the renewal of their collective agreement.
