Manhyia South MP reports himself to EOCO

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after a High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

The MP arrived at the EOCO office on Thursday, October 1, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, and several Members of Parliament.

His decision to report himself follows a court order issued on Wednesday, September 30, authorising EOCO to arrest him.

The warrant was issued after EOCO told the High Court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance for questioning.

According to the agency, it had invited the MP for questioning, but a subsequent attempt to arrest him led to a heated confrontation at the premises of the Accra High Court.

Several MPs have joined Baffour Awuah at the EOCO office, including Kofi Amankwah Manu, Subin MP Obiri Yeboah and former Deputy Attorney-General, Joseph Kpemka.

The MP’s appearance before EOCO is expected to shed more light on the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the warrant issued for his arrest.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that Baffour Awuah is being investigated over alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Ltd.
