Two people have reportedly been killed and several others injured following a land-related dispute between the communities of Buo and Tiwii in the Upper West Region, according to the area’s Member of Parliament.
Sissala West MP Mohammed Adams Sukparu said the incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, and called on residents to remain calm while security agencies investigate the matter.
“I am deeply saddened and concerned by reports of this tragic incident,” Sukparu said in a statement.
He extended his condolences to the families of those reported dead and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The MP said the Regional Security Council and District Security Council have deployed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces to the affected communities to help restore and maintain peace.
He did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths or indicate who may be responsible.
Sukparu appealed to residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to avoid retaliation, provocation and any form of violence.
“Whatever differences exist between us, no land or boundary dispute is worth the loss of another human life,” he said.
The MP also called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, women and other stakeholders to use their influence to prevent the situation from escalating further.
He urged residents to cooperate with the security agencies and share any relevant information with investigators to help establish the facts and ensure due process.
According to the MP, security personnel remain deployed in the affected communities as investigations into the incident continue.
