Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has initiated legal proceedings against Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo and broadcaster Abubakar Alhassan, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, over what he says are false publications about him.
Reports suggest that Mr. Awuah, who is also a lawyer, filed a writ of summons against the two, choosing to seek redress through the civil courts instead of pursuing criminal prosecution.
“Unlike the government, I have chosen the path of democrats, by seeking relief through civil court rather than pursuing criminal prosecution for the publication of false news,” he stated.
The lawsuit follows a recent controversy surrounding an attempted arrest of the Manhyia South MP by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The incident took place while Mr Awuah was seeking the release of Salomey Awiti Bafoh and Camilla Alhassan, whom he represents as legal counsel.
Mr Awuah has accused the government of attempting to intimidate and silence him because of his advocacy for the two women, claims the government has rejected.
He has further alleged that Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a mother of three minor children, was kidnapped by state security agents and remains in police custody.
EOCO, however, said its officers attempted to take the MP into custody as part of an ongoing investigation. The Office said Mr Awuah had been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with the investigation and that the attempted arrest was aimed at ensuring his attendance.
Mr Awuah has disputed that account, maintaining that the investigation concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, which his law firm represents, and does not relate to him personally.
According to him, a representative of the law firm had already engaged with EOCO investigators on three occasions and submitted a written statement to the Office in April 2026.
Despite the lawsuit and the controversy surrounding the attempted arrest, Mr Awuah said he remains determined to secure the release of the two women and reunite them with their families.
He did not, however, specify in his statement the particular comments or publications by Mr Baidoo and Blakk Rasta that prompted the lawsuit.
