Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier against The Gambia after suffering an injury in the Black Stars’ defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.
The Spartak Moscow centre-back, who captained Ghana during the encounter in Bouaké, was forced off in the 71st minute of Thursday’s 2-0 loss.
Djiku has since returned to his club for further medical assessment and will not be available for Ghana’s second Group C fixture.
His absence will be a setback for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who will now have to make adjustments to his defensive options ahead of the home encounter.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, with kick-off set for 4:00pm.
Ghana will be hoping to respond positively after suffering defeat in their opening qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire.
