The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Chairman COKA, has promised that a future NPP government will focus on creating jobs and empowering young people.
He accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of failing to deliver on its promise to create more employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
Chairman COKA made the comments during a thanksgiving tour by the newly elected Ashanti Regional executives of the NPP. The team visited some churches in the region following their victory in the party’s August elections.
He also expressed confidence that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and become Ghana’s next President. He appealed to churches to pray for the party as it prepares to contest the election.
Chairman COKA also raised concerns about what he described as the increasing arrest of people over their opinions on national issues. He said a future NPP government would protect the right of citizens to freely express their views.
“If you express your view in Ghana today and you are not careful, the next thing is you will be arrested. We no longer have the right to express our views freely”, COKA bemoaned.
He also spoke about challenges with the school placement system, claiming that similar problems did not occur during the NPP’s eight years in government.
According to him, the current NDC administration has not handled the placement process properly, leaving some students who completed Junior High School (JHS) without Senior High School (SHS) placements.
He assured parents and students that the situation would be addressed if the NPP returns to power under the leadership of Dr Bawumia.
“Today many of our children who completed junior high school are still home because they didn’t get admission. Something the NPP handled well in eight years. I want to assure you that the next NPP government under Dr Bawumia, this issue will not happen again,” he stated.
