The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested two persons and seized 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp during a snap-check operation at Dawhenya in the Prampram Division.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as part of efforts by the police to clamp down on the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the region.
According to a statement from the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects were intercepted at about 12:45 a.m. while travelling in an Accra-bound Ford Transit vehicle with registration number GT 6140-22.
The vehicle was being driven by Godwin Asigeh, who was accompanied by Freeman Amedoku.
Police officers searched the vehicle and discovered 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp wrapped in yellow polythene bags.
Following the discovery, the two suspects, the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substance were conveyed to the Detraco Police Station for further investigation.
The police said the suspected Indian hemp had been retained as an exhibit, while the vehicle had been impounded.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the source and intended destination of the substance.
