Residents of Assin Amoabeng, a town near Nyankumase Ahenkro in the Assin South District of the Central Region, awoke on Monday to the shocking news of the death of a 52-year-old spiritualist and farmer, popularly known as Alhaji Nagode, under circumstances believed to be suicide.
Baba Ibrahim, who actively campaigned against illegal mining and environmentally harmful activities in the region, was discovered hanging in his room at approximately 7:10 a.m., shortly after his 14-year-old daughter had departed to escort her younger sibling to school.
The spiritualist had allegedly instructed his daughter to take the younger sibling to school and return for money to purchase food.
Upon her return about 30 minutes later, she found her father deceased.
She raised an alarm, which drew the attention of residents to the scene.
Baba Ibrahim was reportedly a well-respected figure in the community, particularly for his advocacy against illegal mining and other activities that posed a threat to the environment.
He was a father to seven children, the youngest of whom is said to be around five years old.
Although he was no longer living with his wife, the unexpected death has reportedly left both the family and the community in shock.
Meanwhile, the police have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
