The new Ghana Premier League season is almost here, and clubs are leaving little to chance as they put the finishing touches to their squads.
As the 2026/27 campaign is set to begin this weekend, September 4, several clubs have been active in the transfer market, bringing in fresh talent, experienced players and promising youngsters.
From traditional giants such as Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to title hopefuls Medeama, Aduana FC and FC Samartex, there has been significant movement ahead of the new season.
As we count down to the new season, The Ghana Report sports desk takes a look at the big signings.
Medeama leads the recruitment race
Medeama has been one of the busiest clubs, strengthening almost every area of the team. The GPL champions have signed Etse Dogli from Heart of Lions on a three-year deal, while Emmanuel Boateng joins from Eleven Wonders on a two-year contract.
Free agent Dominic Frimpong has also arrived on a three-year deal, with Emmanuel Annor from Nations FC and winger Emmanuel Fobi from Georgian side Dila Gori among the other notable additions.
The club has further recruited players including Issah Ibrahim, Abdul Rahman Yaya, Usman Safianu, Blessing Kwabena Dwamena, Monged Abuzaid Salman, Jelillu Osman and Ebenezer Adade from Dreams FC.
Hearts invest in youth
Hearts of Oak has focused strongly on young talent, with several long-term contracts secured. Abdul Aziz joins from Swedru All Blacks on a three-year deal, while Rockson Kyeremeh and centre-back Manuel Osei Djan arrive from PAC Academy on five-year contracts.
The Phobians have also added Caleb Koranteng, Alex Banso, Prince Amevor, goalkeeper Vicente Anane, Ivorian forward Mamadou Kader Kourouma and Dominic Nsobila.
After this massive investment in youth, Hearts of Oak appointed Serbian tactician Nebojsa Kapor as the club’s new head coach on a two-year contract to strengthen its bench.
Kotoko strengthen squad
Asante Kotoko has also made notable additions as they prepare for another challenging campaign. Goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim and midfielder Richard Boadu (Agadas) have made their return to the club on a two-year deal, while Emmanuel Mamah, Ivorian defender Koffi Marius Ange Bini, Isaac Opoku Agyemang and Burkina Faso midfielder Abdoul Kader Tarnagda are among the new arrivals.
The Porcupine Warriors have also recruited Cameroonian midfielder Solomon Nsor Asaah, Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad and Albanian defender Umar Ali from Partizani.
Asante Kotoko also made changes to their touchline as South African coach Eric Tinkler takes over as new head coach.
Other clubs join the spending spree
Aduana FC has strengthened their defence and attack with players such as Samuel Tenedu, Boa-At Regain, Stephen Amankona, Abdul Latif Mohammed, Emmanuel Abban and Bismark Anim.
FC Samartex has added four players, including Ebenezer Okrah, Prince Affum, Joshua Fuseini and Meshack Adjetey Sowah.
AshantiGold has looked beyond Ghana, signing Togo-based Raphael Kodjo Etchonou and Burkina Faso defender Ben Yamine Nassirou Kabore, alongside several domestic recruits.
Gold Stars has added Nicholas Amekpewu, Claude Shooting Bortey and Kwame Opoku, while Heart of Lions have assembled a new-look squad featuring several free agents.
Berekum Chelsea, Karela United, Port City FC, Swedru All Blacks and Vision FC have also been active in the market.
