The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has warned newly recruited parliamentary assistant security officers not to report for duty under the influence of alcohol.
He said any officer who breaks the directive will face disciplinary action, with a third offence leading to dismissal from Parliament.
Bagbin gave the warning on Friday, August 29, 2026, during the passing-out ceremony for 69 newly recruited parliamentary assistant security guards.
He urged the officers to be disciplined, professional and committed to their work.
The Speaker advised them to keep their social lives separate from their official duties, stressing that discipline among security officers is important for protecting Parliament and Ghana’s democracy.
He also asked the new officers to remain alert at all times and strictly follow access control and security procedures to protect the Parliamentary precincts.
“No alcoholism. Once we come and we smell alcohol from you, I can assure you, you’ll be disciplined. And on the third occasion, you’ll be booted out.The protection of our democracy begins with the yielding discipline of those tasked to guard its pillars,” he said.
