Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has conveyed his readiness to serve as the running mate to former Vice President and current flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, should he be invited to assume the role.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Boamah was questioned about his preparedness to become Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming 2028 presidential election.
He responded positively, indicating that he would be willing to accept the responsibility if the opportunity presents itself.
“I am ready to serve as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate if I am called upon to do so,” he stated.
Boamah also mentioned that he would have no reason to decline such an opportunity if the party’s leadership deems him fit for the position.
“Why won’t I do it? Yes, I will do it,” he said on UTV.
Earlier this year, Frederick Opare-Ansah, a former campaign manager for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urged party members to temper discussions regarding who should accompany him on the ticket for the 2028 general elections, labeling the conversation as premature and potentially distracting.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Opare-Ansah asserted that the party’s immediate priority should be to rebuild after a challenging political season, rather than focusing on ticket balancing.
“It is way too early to have conversations about a running mate. Our biggest challenge now is to reorganise. We must be patient,” he stated.
He said that any decision regarding a vice-presidential candidate must be strategic, considering the political landscape at that time, including the identity and strength of the opposition’s flagbearer.
“We do not even know who the NDC will bring. In choosing a running mate, it is a strategic move. Depending on their candidate, you need to choose from a prime area, otherwise it can affect you,” he explained.
