Eleven school pupils have reportedly been abducted in the Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, with two of them managing to escape from their alleged captors.
The two survivors, pupils of Happy Royal International School, said the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while they were travelling to school.
According to the pupils, they boarded a commercial vehicle at Buokrom Junction and informed the mate that they intended to alight at Adonko Junction.
However, when the vehicle reached the junction, the mate allegedly refused to allow them to get down. The pupils said the windows were subsequently closed before a substance resembling perfume and powder was sprayed inside the vehicle.
One of the escapees, Ramziyya Taiban, told reporters that she managed to open a window and put her head outside, preventing her from inhaling much of the substance.
She said the pupils were later taken to an uncompleted building around Sepe Dote. During the journey, the suspects allegedly transferred them into another vehicle.
Ramziyya said she and her sister, Maimuna, were eventually left behind when the second vehicle became full, giving them an opportunity to escape.
She said she climbed through a window and sought help from a man who was passing by in his vehicle. The man reportedly took the two girls to a safer location, where a hairdresser later assisted them and helped them return home.
“We were 11, but only my sister and I escaped,” Ramziyya recounted.
The whereabouts of the remaining nine pupils remain unknown. The incident has reportedly been reported to the police, who are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and work to locate the missing children.
The headmaster of Happy Royal International School, Francis Koomson, confirmed that the school had been informed about the incident around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
He said the school was relying on the police for verified information and updates because it had not received first-hand details of what happened.
