National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has hit back at Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) CEO Sammy Gyamfi, accusing him of being unable to withstand the kind of political scrutiny he once directed at members of the opposition.
Speaking at a press conference at the NPP headquarters, Nana Boakye said Mr Gyamfi should not expect to make serious allegations against political opponents without being subjected to scrutiny himself now that he is in government.
He described the GoldBod CEO as being “afraid of his own shadow” and recalled several allegations Mr Gyamfi allegedly made during the 2020 election campaign.
Nana Boakye cited claims that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had received a bribe, based on a video which he said had been doctored. He argued that Mr Gyamfi was unable to establish the authenticity of the video.
He also mentioned an allegation that then-Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secretly owned Hubtel, saying the claim was never substantiated.
According to Nana Boakye, although such allegations were made against NPP figures, they did not respond with similar personal attacks or insults.
He questioned why Mr Gyamfi was now uncomfortable with demands for accountability over the controversy surrounding an alleged US$1.7 billion loss linked to Ghana’s gold trade.
“You’re experiencing karma,” Nana Boakye told the GoldBod CEO, suggesting that Mr Gyamfi was now facing the same kind of political pressure he had previously placed on his opponents.
The NPP National Organiser maintained that the concerns over the alleged US$1.7 billion loss should not be dismissed as mere political attacks and called for clarity on the matter.
