The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared the activation of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal for the online collection and submission of candidates’ school preferences for the 2026 school placement process.
The portal will be accessible from Monday, August 24, to Thursday, August 27, 2026, allowing heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) to enter the school selection information of candidates.
In a directive dated August 24 and sent to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES indicated that this initiative is part of the preparations for the 2026 placement of candidates into senior high schools.
Headteachers who have not yet completed the submission of candidates’ school choices on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal for pre-testing have been instructed to finalise this by the end of the workday on Monday, August 24.
They are then required to input and upload the candidates’ information on the WAEC portal within the designated timeframe.
The GES noted that the WAEC portal permits the same school identification number and password to be utilised simultaneously on multiple computers.
According to the Service, this feature enables schools with a high volume of candidates to capture and upload data concurrently, thereby ensuring the timely completion of the exercise.
Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, along with Examination Coordinators, have been instructed to closely oversee the process and ensure that the data of all eligible candidates are accurately captured, verified, and submitted.
Regional Directors of Education have also been assigned the responsibility of communicating the directive to all pertinent schools and ensuring strict adherence.
The GES emphasised the importance of capturing and submitting all eligible candidates’ data within the four-day timeframe to facilitate the 2026 placement process.
