W/R: Police arrest 5 suspects over robbery and murder of gold buyer

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.

The victim, identified as Seth Kobina, was shot during an attack on his gold buying shop on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. when a group of armed men attacked the shop. The victim was shot in the chest and rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, led investigators to identify 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, also known as “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the group.

Police arrested Amponsah on August 21 at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.

However, the suspect reportedly fell ill after his arrest and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of three other suspects in the Agona Nkwanta area. They are 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”; 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim; and 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”.

A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.

Police said a search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.

During interrogation, Quayeson reportedly identified Amponsah as the person who shot the deceased. He also identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured on CCTV during the robbery.

The five suspects are assisting the Police with investigations as efforts continue to arrest other members of the alleged gang.
