The Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has decided to temporarily suspend its ongoing industrial action following renewed discussions with the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders.
This suspension is effective immediately, and members of the association are expected to return to their regular duties while discussions regarding the unresolved issues continue.
TUSAAG initiated the strike due to the government’s failure to disburse a promised one-time research allowance and to fully implement a negotiated interim allowance agreement.
In a joint statement released alongside the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), TUSAAG indicated that the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Vice Chancellors Ghana, and Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities Ghana have committed to renewed and time-sensitive discussions aimed at addressing the outstanding issues.
As a result, the association has instructed its members across the affected technical universities to return to work while negotiations are ongoing.
However, TUSAAG emphasised that the suspension is temporary and contingent upon demonstrable progress in resolving the issues that led to the strike.
The association cautioned that it retains the right to resume industrial action without prior notice if the discussions, particularly with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), do not yield satisfactory results within a reasonable and mutually agreed timeframe.
TUSAAG stated that the decision to suspend the strike was made in good faith and in the spirit of social dialogue, allowing the renewed negotiations to lead to a lasting resolution.
The association expressed gratitude to its members for their solidarity and discipline throughout the industrial action and conveyed appreciation to the general public for their patience and understanding.
