The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will commence the selection of their preferred senior high schools from Monday, July 20 to Friday, August 7, 2026.
The exercise will pave the way for the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), through which qualified candidates will be placed into senior high schools and technical institutions across the country.
Ahead of the selection process, the GES has begun a nationwide training and sensitisation programme for Regional and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education to equip them with the necessary knowledge to guide and supervise the exercise.
According to the Service, the training, which runs from Wednesday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 28, 2026, is designed to provide education directors with a deeper understanding of the 2026 school selection guidelines and placement procedures.
“The training programme is intended to equip Regional and District Directors of Education with adequate knowledge of the 2026 school selection guidelines and placement procedures to ensure effective supervision of the exercise,” the GES said in a statement.
The Service noted that the initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that education authorities are well prepared to provide accurate information and guidance to candidates, parents and guardians throughout the selection period.
“We are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders involved in the process are adequately informed and equipped to support candidates in making the right choices,” the statement added.
The Service further stressed the need for collaboration among education authorities, schools and parents to ensure that candidates make informed decisions regarding their school choices.
“Regional and District Directors are expected to communicate the relevant information and guidelines to schools and stakeholders to facilitate a smooth and transparent selection process,” GES stated.
