Brong Ahafo Region have been crowned champions of the Elite U17 Girls Competition after defeating Northern Region 3-1 on penalties in a tense final played in Prampram.
The two teams battled strongly throughout the contest but could not be separated after 90 minutes, as the match ended goalless despite several opportunities created by both sides.
Brong Ahafo started the game brightly and came close to taking the lead when Mercy Akilvoa produced an impressive solo run, but her effort struck the post and denied her side a possible opening goal.
Northern Region also had their moments, creating chances that tested the Brong Ahafo defence. However, their attackers struggled to find the back of the net, with Mohammed Ruhia’s second-half effort failing to trouble goalkeeper Fadila Musah.
With neither side able to break the deadlock during regulation time, the final was decided through a penalty shootout.
The shootout turned into a memorable moment for Brong Ahafo goalkeeper Fadila Musah, who delivered a match-winning performance by saving three penalties from Northern Region.
Her outstanding efforts gave Brong Ahafo the advantage as they converted their spot kicks to secure a 3-1 victory and lift the Elite U17 Girls Championship trophy.
The triumph capped an impressive campaign for the Brong Ahafo team, who showed determination and resilience throughout the tournament. Their ability to remain composed under pressure proved crucial in the final, especially during the penalty shootout.
Northern Region, despite losing the final, also impressed with a strong defensive display and held their opponents for the entire duration of normal time.
