Chelsea have confirmed the signing of experienced England midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Blues announced the deal on Monday, with the 36-year-old set to join his new teammates as preparations begin for the new campaign.
Henderson arrives at Stamford Bridge with a wealth of experience, having enjoyed a decorated career at both club and international level.
Speaking after completing the move, Henderson expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, describing the opportunity as one he could not ignore.
He said the club’s stature, the quality of the squad, and his admiration for the manager played a major role in his decision.
The midfielder also praised Chelsea’s ownership for their determination to restore the club to the top of English and European football.
Henderson pledged to give his all both on and off the pitch, adding that he hopes to use his experience to support his teammates and contribute to the club’s ambitions.
The midfielder began his professional career with Sunderland, making his senior debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in November 2008.
After a successful loan spell at Coventry City, he established himself in Sunderland’s first team, making 79 appearances before earning a move to Liverpool in 2011.
During his 12-year spell at Anfield, Henderson developed into one of the club’s most influential players. He was appointed captain in 2015 following Steven Gerrard’s departure and went on to lead Liverpool to several major honours.
Under his captaincy, Liverpool won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. In total, Henderson has lifted eight major trophies during his career.
Following his time at Liverpool, Henderson played for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq before moving to Ajax in the Netherlands. He later returned to England for a spell with Brentford before completing his transfer to Chelsea.
On the international stage, Henderson has earned 91 caps for England. He was part of the squad that finished runners-up at UEFA Euro 2020 and also helped England secure third place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
