Chelsea have strengthened their defence with the signing of French centre-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £52 million, as the Premier League giants continue their squad rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Blues confirmed that Lacroix has completed his medical examination and signed a long-term contract after both clubs finalised the necessary paperwork.
The transfer ends weeks of speculation surrounding the defender’s future and adds another high-profile signing to Chelsea’s summer recruitment drive.
Speaking after the move was announced, the 26-year-old expressed his excitement about joining one of England’s most successful clubs.

Lacroix joins Chelsea after an impressive spell at Crystal Palace, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.
Since arriving from German side VfL Wolfsburg, he earned praise for his pace, aerial ability, composure on the ball and leadership at the back.
Before moving to England, Lacroix enjoyed a successful period in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, where his consistent performances attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to rely on Lacroix to strengthen a defence that has undergone significant changes in recent transfer windows.
