Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers in a blockbuster £117 million transfer, with the England international set to become one of the most expensive British players in football history.
The deal, which does not include additional performance-related payments, will see Rogers move to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea moved quickly to secure his services ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Reports indicate that Arsenal had identified the 23-year-old as a major target, but Chelsea’s new head coach Xabi Alonso played a key role in convincing the player to join the Blues.
Rogers is expected to sign an initial six-year contract with Chelsea, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement for another season. The long-term deal reflects Chelsea’s belief in the attacker’s potential and their plans to build around young, talented players under Alonso’s leadership.
The transfer fee makes Rogers the most expensive British player in history, surpassing the previous record of £116 million paid for Manchester City’s Elliot Anderson earlier in the summer.
Rogers enjoyed a remarkable rise at Aston Villa after joining the club from Middlesbrough in 2024. He quickly established himself as a key player under Unai Emery, contributing goals and assists while helping Villa compete at the highest level.
In the 2025/26 season, he recorded 14 goals and 11 assists in 55 appearances and earned recognition as one of England’s brightest attacking talents.
His versatility is considered one of his biggest strengths, with the forward capable of operating as a winger, attacking midfielder or in a more central role.
Chelsea is expected to use his pace, physical strength and creativity to add more quality to their attacking options.
