The Special Task Force of the Northern Regional Police Command, known as Red Maria, has seized 170 parcels of suspected narcotic substances believed to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation.
Addressing the media, the Deputy Northern Regional Crime Officer, ASP Richard Ackumey, said the suspected drugs were intercepted on Monday, July 27, 2026, during a targeted operation carried out by the task force.
He reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to stepping up efforts to fight drug trafficking and other related crimes in the region, assuring the public that operations to arrest drug dealers would continue.
ASP Ackumey disclosed that the two suspects, 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi and 33-year-old Seth Amekuse, will be brought before the court after investigations are completed and all evidence has been thoroughly reviewed.
He described the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse in the Northern Region as encouraging, adding that the Police have continued to receive strong support from traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and members of the public in tackling the problem.
ASP Ackumey also appealed to the public to continue sharing timely and credible information with the Police to help strengthen efforts to combat drug-related crimes across the region.
