NPP annuls Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East, Adansi Asokwa constituency elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has annulled the constituency executive elections conducted in the Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa constituencies in the Ashanti Region over what it described as serious breaches of party regulations and directives governing the exercise.

The decision was taken by the party’s National Steering Committee during a meeting held on Wednesday, July 15, to review the conduct of the nationwide constituency executive elections held over the weekend.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the party said the elections in the three constituencies were conducted in violation of established procedures and, in some cases, contrary to existing court orders.

According to the NPP, the elections were held “in flagrant disregard of Party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections, and, where applicable, subsisting court orders.”

Consequently, the party announced that all results from the affected constituencies have been invalidated with immediate effect pending further action by the national leadership.

As part of efforts to establish the circumstances that led to the disputed elections, the National Steering Committee has summoned the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to appear before it on Tuesday, July 21, to provide explanations regarding the conduct of the polls in the affected constituencies.

The party further referred disputes arising from the constituency executive elections in Asante Akyem Central, together with other unresolved election-related matters across the country, to the Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Council for recommendations and advice before any final decisions are made.

The annulment follows controversies that reportedly characterised portions of the internal elections in the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the NPP and a key region in the party’s rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and due process, the NPP assured members that it would continue to enforce strict adherence to the party’s constitution and electoral regulations.

“The Party wishes to assure all members that it remains firmly committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring strict compliance with its Constitution and Regulations, and preserving the integrity, credibility, and transparency of its internal democratic processes,” the statement signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated.
