Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena has been officially recognized as the heir to the Kantanka Empire after the will of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was read in court on Monday, July 6, 2026.
This reading clarifies the issue of succession for the Kantanka Group of Companies, which was established by the late industrialist and leader of the Kristo Asafo Church, who died on September 11, 2025.
The passing of Apostle Safo sparked a leadership dispute within the empire between Akofena, who had been acting as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kantanka Group, and his elder sister, Adwoa Safo, a former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya.
Tensions between the two parties intensified in June when a confrontation took place at Akofena’s residence in Dome Kwabenya during a scheduled installation ceremony.
According to family reports, Adwoa Safo was shot while trying to enter the property and subsequently required hospitalization for her injuries.
In the aftermath of the incident, Akofena and several of his security personnel were taken into custody but were later released on bail.
