We fell short in attack – Jordan Ayew

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has asked Ghanaians to be patient as the team continues to adapt to the tactics of newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz.

He made the comments during a post-match interview with Sporty TV after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The defeat brought Ghana’s World Cup campaign to an end and could also mark Jordan Ayew’s final appearance at the tournament, having represented the Black Stars at three FIFA World Cups.

Reflecting on the loss, Ayew said the team is still adjusting to Queiroz’s style of play. He noted that the Portuguese coach only took charge in April and needs more time to fully implement his ideas.

“We have a new manager, he just came two months ago trying to install his style and people are adjusting. You don’t adjust within one month or two months, football doesn’t work like that.”

Ayew acknowledged that Ghana showed improvement in defence during the tournament but said the team must also become more effective in attack.

“You could see that defensively, we were better but we fell short a bit offensively so we have to find the right balance. The manager needs time; he’s a very good manager” Jordan Ayew said.
