France captain Kylian Mbappé has made FIFA World Cup history after winning the Golden Boot for the second tournament in a row.
The 27-year-old finished as the top scorer at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with 10 goals and four assists, becoming the first player ever to win the award in consecutive World Cups.
Mbappé first won the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored eight goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the final against Argentina.
He also reached another major milestone during the 2026 tournament by becoming the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer. His two goals against England in the third-place playoff took his total to 22 World Cup goals, moving him past Lionel Messi’s previous record.
Despite Mbappé’s outstanding performances, France finished the tournament without a medal after losing 6-4 to England in the third-place playoff.
Didier Deschamps’ side had earlier been knocked out in the semifinals following a 2-0 defeat to eventual champions Spain.
