The Mankranso District Police Command in the Ashanti Region has arrested four people suspected of involvement in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs following a special intelligence-led operation at Kunsu Township.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Friday, June 26, was part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities in communities across the district.
According to a police statement, the suspects have been identified as Issaka Musah, 22, Amankwah Emmanuel, 25, Kwame Boateng, 32, and Appiah Prince, 23. The arrests were made after officers acted on intelligence suggesting illegal drug activities within the area.
During a search conducted at the location, police recovered a locally manufactured pistol loaded with two rounds of BB ammunition. Officers also seized quantities of substances believed to be illegal drugs, including suspected Tramadol tablets, red capsules, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and a white powder thought to be cocaine.
In addition to the suspected narcotics, police retrieved GH¢5,647.40 in cash. Investigators suspect the money may have been generated through the sale of illegal drugs, although further investigations are underway to establish its source.
The police statement indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspects admitted ownership of the items found during the operation. However, authorities say all evidence recovered will undergo further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The four suspects are currently being held in police custody and assisting investigators with inquiries. They are expected to be formally charged and brought before court once investigations are completed.
Police have also appealed to members of the public to support the fight against crime by providing timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities within their communities.
